The short version of Regulatory status fits in a sentence. The long version — which is the one that helps — is below.
This page was last updated on 2026-05-06 and is reviewed periodically as new material appears.
Regulatory agencies have not approved dihexa as a prescription drug or supplement. In many countries it falls into a gray area when sold for laboratory research. Buyers may encounter products marketed for research use only, which are not intended for human consumption. Purity and identity can vary between suppliers and batches. Certificates of analysis and independent testing are often recommended for research materials. Documentation helps verify what a vial contains.
Discussion of dihexa in online communities sometimes outpaces the scientific record. Anecdotal reports are difficult to verify and may not distinguish effects from placebo or expectation. The absence of approved human data means long-term risks remain unknown. Researchers continue to investigate related compounds and pathways. Open questions include whether animal findings translate to humans and which biological targets matter most. No consensus exists on these points. Current reviews emphasize the need for rigorous clinical research.
Most published work on dihexa consists of preclinical studies using cell cultures or rodents. Reports have described effects on synaptic connectivity and performance on cognitive tasks in some animal models. These findings are generally presented as preliminary and require independent replication. Study designs, doses, and outcome measures vary across experiments, which complicates direct comparison. No large controlled human trials have established efficacy or safety for any medical use. At present, the evidence base is limited.
Chemically, dihexa belongs to a broader group of angiotensin IV analogs. Researchers have modified the natural peptide to alter stability, binding, or distribution. Such changes can affect how the molecule behaves in experiments. The parent peptide angiotensin IV is involved in various physiological processes, but the modified analog is not identical to it. Public summaries sometimes blur the distinction between the natural fragment and the synthetic research compound. This distinction matters when interpreting study results.
Dihexa is a synthetic peptide that has been examined in laboratory and animal research. Its design is based on angiotensin IV, a naturally occurring peptide fragment produced in the body. The short name dihexa appears in scientific papers and online discussions, while the full chemical name describes a modified peptide chain. It is not a vitamin, mineral, or plant-derived compound. Suppliers typically present it as a research chemical rather than an approved medicine.
| Property | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Development status | Preclinical research | No approved therapeutic indication has been established. |
| Human data | Limited or absent | Published controlled trials in people are not available. |
| Regulatory classification | Varies by country | Often treated as a research chemical rather than a medicine. |
| Common supply form | Lyophilized powder | Sold for laboratory use, not for human consumption. |
| Quality checks | Certificate of analysis; HPLC; mass spectrometry | Used to verify identity and purity in research settings. |
Purity and identity are usually assessed with reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and mass spectrometry. RP-HPLC separates components by hydrophobicity and can estimate peptide purity. Mass spectrometry confirms molecular mass and helps detect truncations or modifications. Some laboratories also use amino acid analysis or nuclear magnetic resonance for structural verification. A certificate of analysis from a supplier may list these results, but independent verification is often recommended for critical work.
Regulatory status varies by country, and dihexa is not widely approved as a medicine. In many jurisdictions it is treated as a research chemical, which limits its legal sale, possession, and human use. Products marketed online may lack verified purity or identity, and labels can be inaccurate. Researchers typically source material from suppliers that provide analytical documentation and follow institutional safety rules. Open questions remain about long-term stability, metabolite formation, and human pharmacokinetics.
The proposed mechanism involves interaction with the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) system and its receptor, c-Met. Dihexa is described in some studies as an HGF mimetic, meaning it may mimic or enhance HGF-mediated signaling. Activation of c-Met can influence cell growth, survival, and cytoskeletal remodeling, pathways that intersect with synaptic plasticity. However, the precise binding targets and downstream events for dihexa are not fully established, and alternative mechanisms have been suggested.
Dihexa is a synthetic peptide with the chemical name N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6)-aminohexanoic amide, and it is structurally related to angiotensin IV, a naturally occurring peptide fragment. Researchers developed it as a modified analog intended to alter stability and activity relative to the parent peptide. Its short sequence and fatty acid chain distinguish it from many endogenous peptides, and published studies often describe it under the abbreviation dihexa. The compound is classified as a laboratory compound rather than an approved therapeutic in most jurisdictions.
Quality control usually combines reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. Chromatography estimates purity and detects related impurities, while mass spectrometry supports molecular identity. Nuclear magnetic resonance can provide additional structural confirmation when needed. Stability data for dihexa are limited, and degradation pathways may depend on pH, temperature, and moisture. Open questions include long-term stability in different formulations and the effect of repeated freeze-thaw cycles on measured purity. Such tests help confirm that a batch matches its label before use.
In laboratory settings, dihexa is typically handled as a lyophilized peptide powder. Appropriate personal protective equipment and a ventilated workspace are standard practices for weighing and transferring research chemicals. Because the compound lacks regulatory approval for clinical use, it should not be given to people. Institutional safety rules and local regulations govern its acquisition, storage, and disposal. Suppliers often provide a certificate of analysis that lists purity, identity, and batch-specific handling notes.
Human safety data are sparse. No widely accepted dosing regimen, long-term safety profile, or clinical efficacy endpoint has been established. Published animal results can suggest directions for further study, but species differences and study design limit direct translation. Open questions include bioavailability, blood-brain barrier penetration, metabolism, and whether observed effects arise from a single target or multiple pathways. Replication across independent laboratories remains an important benchmark for evaluating the strength of preclinical claims.
Most published reports on dihexa come from cell cultures and animal models. Studies have examined markers of synapse formation, dendritic spine density, and performance on learning tasks in rodents. Proposed mechanisms center on hepatocyte growth factor and its c-Met receptor, with additional attention to angiotensin IV-related pathways. These findings are experimental and have not been confirmed as clinical benefits in humans. The literature often uses different tasks and endpoints, which complicates direct comparison across studies.
Regulatory status differs by country, but dihexa is generally not approved as a therapeutic product. It is often sold as a research chemical, which means purity, labeling, and handling fall outside pharmaceutical drug standards. Some jurisdictions restrict the sale of peptides intended for human consumption. Researchers and suppliers may therefore face different legal requirements depending on location. Import rules and customs enforcement can also affect how such compounds move across borders.
Under the terms of his 2011 employment agreement, McCord received $529,994 in direct compensation as well as a 50-cent commission on every bottle of Protandim sold. McCord served as LifeVantage's Chief Scientific Officer from June 2011 until September 2012, and then became a member of its science advisory board. LifeVantage announced McCord's retirement in June 2013. Under the terms of the separation agreement, McCord was to receive a payment of $1.7 million from the company. == Interactions == Spironolactone often increases serum potassium levels and can cause hyperkalemia, a very serious condition. Therefore, people using this medication should avoid potassium supplements and salt substitutes containing potassium. Physicians must be careful to monitor potassium levels in both males and females who are taking spironolactone as a diuretic, especially during the first 12 months of use and whenever the dosage is increased. Doctors may also recommend that some patients may be advised to limit dietary consumption of potassium-rich foods. Recent data suggest that both potassium monitoring and dietary restriction of potassium intake are unnecessary in healthy young women taking spironolactone for acne and in healthy, young, gender-diverse individuals taking spironolactone for hormone therapy. Spironolactone together with trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole increases the likelihood of hyperkalemia, especially in the elderly. The trimethoprim portion acts to prevent potassium excretion in the distal tubule of the nephron. Spironolactone has been reported to induce the enzymes CYP3A4 and certain UDP-glucuronosyltransferases , which can result in interactions with various medications. However, metabolites of spironolactone reportedly irreversibly inhibit CYP3A4. In any case, spironolactone has been found to reduce the bioavailability of oral estradiol, which could be due to induction of estradiol metabolism via CYP3A4. Spironolactone has also been found to inhibit UGT2B7.
In 1959 Ernst Freese coined the terms "transitions" or "transversions" to categorize different types of point mutations. Transitions are replacement of a purine base with another purine or replacement of a pyrimidine with another pyrimidine. Transversions are replacement of a purine with a pyrimidine or vice versa. There is a systematic difference in mutation rates for transitions (Alpha) and transversions (Beta). Transition mutations are about ten times more common than transversions.
A very private individual, Gaddafi was given to rumination and solitude and could be reclusive. Gaddafi described himself as a "simple revolutionary" and "pious Muslim" called upon by God to continue Nasser's work. Gaddafi was an austere and devout Muslim, although, according to Vandewalle, his interpretation of Islam was "deeply personal and idiosyncratic". He was also a football enthusiast and enjoyed both playing that game and horse-riding as a means of recreation. He regarded himself as an intellectual; he was a fan of Beethoven and said his favourite novels were Uncle Tom's Cabin, Roots, and The Outsider. Gaddafi considered personal appearance important; Blundy and Lycett described him as "extraordinarily vain". Gaddafi had a large wardrobe, and sometimes changed his outfit more than once a day. He favoured either a military uniform or traditional Libyan dress, tending to eschew Western-style suits. He saw himself as a fashion icon, stating "Whatever I wear becomes a fad. I wear a certain shirt and suddenly everyone is wearing it." After his ascension to power, Gaddafi moved to the Bab al-Azizia barracks, a 6-square-kilometre (2.3 square miles) fortified compound, 3.2 kilometres (2 miles) from the centre of Tripoli. In the 1980s, his lifestyle was considered modest in comparison to those of many other Arab leaders. He was preoccupied with his own security, regularly changing where he slept and sometimes grounding all other planes in Libya when he was flying. He made particular requests when travelling to foreign countries.

==== ASTA pungency unit ==== The ASTA (American Spice Trade Association) pungency unit is based on a scientific method of measuring chili pepper "heat". The technique utilizes high-performance liquid chromatography to identify and measure the concentrations of the various compounds that produce a heat sensation. Scoville units are roughly 1⁄15 the size of pungency units while measuring capsaicin, so a rough conversion is to multiply pungency by 15 to obtain Scoville heat units.
Although probably unrelated to AMPD deficiency, if the person happens to have a high load of d-lactate in the blood (mostly from food and colonic fermentation), the precipitate, the lactate loss and the magnesium loss may occur even before l-lactate (mostly from muscles) reaches its renal re-absorption threshold. This happens because l-lactate and d-lactate compete with each other for renal re-absorption, and because d-lactate has a significantly lower renal re-absorption threshold, <1 mmol/L. In order to keep the excreted metabolites in solution, the kidney also has to excrete water. This is in contrast to complete oxidation of lactic acid, which would actually yield metabolic water for the body. This may lead to onset of acute thirst some tens of minutes into exercise in this state, if the water balance in the body was neutral initially. If the muscle load is small, lactate is mostly recycled back into glucose or burned by other cells in the body. However the newly generated glucose is made available to all cells in the body, not just to muscle cells. The ability of the body to assimilate lactate may also be diminished, if working muscle cells cannot take up glucose from blood, due to myophosphorylase maintaining a higher concentration of it inside loaded cells, and if liver has already filled its glycogen stores up to capacity. So, ultimately, in this state, working muscle cells are destined to lose all glycogen. AMP breakdown to adenosine in this state is minor, because the pool of AMP is kept small by the vigorous regulatory action of myophosphorylase.
He added that Afghanistan had taken serious measures to ensure its territory was not used against Pakistan and said its military actions were defensive. Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, implicitly confirmed that indirect talks with the Afghan Taliban were taking place through third-party mediators, although he described the process as unstructured and informal. He added that if the efforts failed to secure peace, Pakistan could return to its previous approach and escalate military operations in parts of Afghanistan. Pakistani military claimed to have killed 10 TTP militants in an operation in Khyber District and three more in Bannu. On 31 March, Taliban and Pakistani forces clashed in Dangam District of Kunar Province. On 1 April, 4 police personnel and 5 civilians were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast carried out by Pakistani Taliban in Pakistan's Lakki Marwat district. On 2 April, Pakistani officials said that they foiled an infiltration attempt along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border, killing eight militants and seizing a large quantity of weapons and ammunition. That same day, Taliban and Pakistani officials confirmed that they were holding preliminary talks mediated by China in Ürümqi. Pakistani officials described the talks as working-level and said that they had sent their mid-level delegation to take part in the talks.
==== Tax Reform ==== For the first time since the redemocratization in Brazil (over 30 years ago), a tax reform was approved in congress; among its main points is the exemption from taxes for basic food products, as well as the creation of the VAT (Value Added Tax) and the "selective tax", (or "sin tax", a tax on items considered harmful to public health and the environment). Medicine, vegetables, medical devices, among other goods, will also be exempt from VAT charges, while other products such as speedboats, jets and yachts will become susceptible to IPVA charges. The reform also creates progressive taxation on inheritances, which received mild criticism from some sectors of the society. The National Congress enacted the reform on 20 December 2023, in a solemn session attended by the three heads of the republic's powers (executive, legislative and judiciary), as well as ministers Fernando Haddad, from the finance ministry, and Simone Tebet, from the planning ministry; Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco described the promulgation of the reform as "not only a historic milestone, but also a turning point" and claimed that this would "change Brazil's trajectory". After the approval of the reform, the risk rating agency S&P Global Ratings raised Brazil's credit rating and highlighted "better prospects for economic growth".
